Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 4, 2026
Limbur is a reading companion that lets you capture passages from books, understand the people, places, and moments within them, and create illustrations that remain familiar as you continue reading.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Limbur collects, how it is used, where it may be processed, and what happens to it when you delete your account.
Limbur is operated by Omar El Atyqy. If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@limbur.app.
Information you provide
When you use Limbur, you may provide information including book details, photographs or scans of passages, text extracted from those passages, and other material you choose to submit through the app.
When you sign in with Apple, Limbur receives the information Apple makes available for authentication. This may include an Apple-provided account identifier and, depending on your Apple settings, your name or email address. If you use Hide My Email, Apple may provide a private relay address instead of your personal email address.
Information Limbur creates
To provide the service, Limbur may create and store information derived from the material you submit. This includes information about books, excerpts, characters, places and other entities mentioned in passages, descriptions of their appearance or state, generated visual references, and generated illustrations.
Limbur also stores information necessary to operate your account, including your remaining Moments and records needed to safely fulfil in-app purchases.
How we use your information
We use this information to provide and operate Limbur. This includes understanding passages, maintaining continuity as you read, generating illustrations, storing your library, authenticating your account, processing eligible in-app purchases, maintaining the reliability and security of the service, and diagnosing technical problems.
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not use the contents of your Limbur library for advertising.
AI processing
Some features in Limbur use artificial intelligence services to understand passages and generate visual content.
Material needed to perform a request may be sent to our AI infrastructure and service providers for processing. This can include passage text, descriptions derived from passages, and images required to generate or maintain visual continuity.
Limbur currently uses Microsoft Azure services for AI and image generation.
Service providers
Limbur relies on third-party infrastructure providers to operate the service. These currently include:
- Supabase, for authentication, relational database services, and object storage.
- Microsoft Azure, for application hosting and AI services.
- Neo4j Aura, for graph database services used to maintain relationships and continuity within your library.
- Apple, for Sign in with Apple, App Store distribution, and in-app purchases.
- Open Library, where applicable, to help locate publicly available book metadata and cover information.
These providers process information only as necessary for the services they provide to Limbur and are subject to their own privacy and security obligations.
Purchases
Purchases of Moments are processed by Apple through the App Store.
Limbur does not receive or store your full payment-card information. We receive information necessary to verify and fulfil eligible App Store transactions, such as transaction and product identifiers.
Storage and retention
We retain your information while your Limbur account remains active and for as long as necessary to provide the service.
Some operational information may be retained temporarily where necessary for security, reliability, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or recovery from technical failures.
Information held independently by third parties, including Apple transaction records, may remain subject to those providers' own retention requirements.
Account deletion
You can delete your Limbur account from within the app.
When account deletion completes successfully, Limbur deletes the account and the associated data we control, including your library, captured passages, generated illustrations, visual references, account profile, and related stored files.
Limbur attempts to delete this content before removing your authentication identity so that a partially completed deletion does not leave inaccessible content behind.
If you later sign in again after deleting your account, Limbur treats you as a new user. Your previous library and generated content cannot be restored through the new account.
Deletion from Limbur does not cause third parties such as Apple to delete records they are independently required or permitted to retain.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information handled by Limbur. These include authenticated access, encrypted network connections, access controls, and separation between development and production systems.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
International processing
Our service providers may process or store information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, such processing is subject to the safeguards provided by the relevant service provider and applicable law.
Your choices and rights
You can access much of the information associated with your account directly through Limbur and can delete your account from within the app.
Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights relating to access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection to certain processing of your personal information.
To make a privacy request, contact support@limbur.app.
We may need to verify that the request relates to your account before acting on it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Limbur changes.
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide notice through the app or another reasonable method.
